I love the "lived in" feel. As a mom to 3 littles it's impossible for me to achieve the clean, white, contemporary designs that were trendy these past few years. But with some minimal design changes I think a lived in look is very doable. I love the warmth the color adds in as well.

I love the lived in feel too. And mixing modern and traditional elements in a home always feels so good, in my opinion!

I don't think Brits have the "resale" mentality. It's THEIR home and they LIVE in it. IMO, we Americans could benefit from that mentality switch. "To each his own" as they say -- should apply to our decor as well!

YES! You are so right - great point. We need to live IN our homes not for the money we will get OUT of our homes.

I agree! That’s why I love the look so much. I know it’s not everyone’s aesthetic but the coziness and personality is something we should all try to achieve in our homes IMO

My husband and I have a small cottage in Nashville. When we first moved in, I painted everything white but as we've lived in the space, I've really become more influenced by the English and French. Last weekend, I got a wild hair and painted my pantry Farrow and Ball's Hay. It's such a lovely change that added some warmth. Thank you for such a beautiful post, and solidifying my random pop of color.
