Choosing Lighting for Your Kitchen Is Hard...
so here's 15 lights we would recommend over & over again
One of the goals of our journal is to help make the design process a little easier because let’s face it, decision fatigue is so real. For our post today, we’ve put together a list of our favorite pendants and flush mounts for a kitchen, broken up by style and vibe. Let’s start with pendants!
A “no fail” option…
The Devol Creamware Pendant Light is one that pairs so well with everything. Two of them over an island, or one over a kitchen sink or pantry sink. This one is also adjustable as far as height goes and works for both a taller ceiling or can be shortened if needed.
The Devol Large Narrow Pleat Porcelain Light is similar but has a little more personality.
A historic option…
The Limehouse Victoria Station Light
Something unique…
The W.D.C. Home Wellsley Chandelier. This one comes in 4 different colors and would work well with two over a 10 ft island.
For a farmhouse look…
Remains Edison Style Pendant Large
A contemporary or transitional option…
The Visual Comfort Modern Large Lantern. This one is a great option if you like the look of a lantern but don’t have a “traditional” aesthetic or style.
The showstopper…
The Urban Electric Campion Pendant is more of an investment, but for good reason.
A modern option…
A masculine vibe…
The Urban Electric Chiltern on Bracket.
Something that doesn’t distract…
The Olampia Neo Double Bar Pendant is simple enough that it lets the other kitchen details shine, while still being beautiful - the glass shades help with this.
Now, let’s move onto flush mounts. We’ll typically use these in a kitchen either in place of recessed lighting, in a pantry, or over a sink.
The “cool girl” of flush mounts…
The Mullan Oregon B Glass Ceiling Light is our go-to for a cool, smaller ceiling light. The Visual Comfort Top Hat Mini Monopoint Flush Mount is also a great option.
A light that goes with everything else…
If you’ve picked out a lot of the more specific lights, this is a great one for when you just need a few more filler lights. The globe style goes with a lot. We love this one Visual Comfort McCarren Medium Flush Mount or this one from Mullan is a great option for a smaller size Mullan Yaounde Flush Globe Ceiling Light.
A historic/traditional option…
The Visual Comfort Milton Road Flush Mount. This is great as a flush or semi-flush.
Hopefully this roundup gives you a few ideas as you narrow down your options. These are all fixtures we come back to again and again, and we hope they make one more design decision a little easier. And if you’re still in the planning phase, here are a few of our other lighting articles for more inspiration and resources.

What lighting would you recommend for a breakfast nook connected to the kitchen? Should they be similar?
Hello, I have the same Devol pleat pendant above my sink, and I’ve been meaning to replace the lightbulb. Could you share what lightbulb (brand and size) you used? Thank you!
