Thank you for explaining this. I’ve gone lighter on a ceiling color but didn’t realize you could go above 100%.

Do you ever do this to create contrast between walls and trim? E.g. make the trim either lighter or darker than the wall color by saturation (as opposed to a different color)? And while we’re at it... when do you like to go darker on trim? 😊

I go darker on the trim when we want to add some dimension to a room - when cabinets are darker but we don’t want the wall color as dark, and when we want a historic vibe as that paint treatment is a more historic European/early American element

Yes - we are doing that in a home right now and it’s beautiful.

I think I get lost/confused about how to know whether to go with a percent of a color versus picking a different one? Is there a percentage change at which point you’d recommend/suggest picking another color all together? I hope my question makes sense. ☺️

Yes that makes sense! We use the different percentages when the tone of a paint color is spot on but we want it slightly darker/lighter. So if you are wanting a different color and tone, that’s when you would go to a different color altogether.

Does doing a percentage make the paint “custom”? And if so, is there a typical percentage of up charge in cost?
