Would you kindly explain more about your paint color recommendations for a windowless basement? I may be confused because I’m thinking of saturation too literally — as vivid and intense versus muted, and the color gray having zero saturation.
I so appreciate your insight and your generously sharing your expertise with this community.
Hi Nava - I see what you mean - saturation can feel like it means vivd but what I’m referring to when I say saturation is “more” or a “greater intensity of whatever color” (or lack of color, like gray). So I am just recommending that instead of going white, or really light with your colors because it’s a windowless basement, I’m recommending that you actually go a little more intense with the color. It feels counterintuitive but sometimes the really light, white colors can feel dingy in a basement with very little color. I like to use a more saturated version of blue, gray, green than the lightest version (if that makes sense).
Oh you are the best Marianne at making this a post! Love the soffit look for higher ceilings and making the kitchen still look cozy. Would love your opinion on smaller pendants for kitchen lighting… here in Tennessee my clients still want BIG! High ceilings and big lights- I’m always trying to make the case for not floor to ceiling cabinetry and smaller unique pendants but it’s hard! Especially with kitchens here having 11” plus ceilings. What are your thoughts? Are
the days of oversized kitchen pendant lights gone?
Thank you Megan! I don't think the days of a large-sized pendant are gone necessarily - I think it definitely depends on the type of light fixture. I just think the oversized dome pendant feels a little tired but I still love a lantern or a fabric shade or a plaster shade or just some other type of shade that maybe isn't as bold.
With that said, I do like a "lighter" feeling kitchen light whether that's smaller pendants or a linear chandelier/pendant. Or like I said above a lantern or something in plaster that feels organic and not "heavy".
Can’t thank you enough for taking time to answer these questions on my mind! I struggle with getting your look😂 working on a kitchen with 11 foot island, 11 foot ceilings and soooo want to use the Limehouse Victoria station pendants you used - 3 of them, but fearful they will look too small…And of of course you introduced me to that source so can’t sing your praises enough 🙌🏼

Very helpful! Would you recommend a similar approach for a laundry room that’s larger in size but windowless?

I agree and love the chat so much! What you’ve created (making the chat an option) and the community coming from that is just inspiring.
So happy to hear that! Thank you for your support!
Hopefully you love spring cleaning if you pick having a gap between the ceiling and uppers 🕸️🧹🧽🫧
Personally I pick *never again* 😉
Ha - I feel what you are saying for sure! How about when fake plants were placed on top and also gathered dust as well. Definitely not again ;)
So helpful, thank you so much!
So glad you found it helpful!
The candlesticks are wonderful! Also love all kitchens by Devol….
