Take Mother's Day into Your Own Hands
16 gifts that we can give but would rather receive
After my Mom died when I was 25, and honestly even before then, Mother’s Day was a really hard day for me. My husband tried to make it a nice day but it didn’t really get better until I decided to take Mother’s Day into my own hands and told him just to book me a hotel room for the Saturday before Mother’s Day for me to relax and be alone, order room service, watch movies, read, meditate, do, whatever I want.
I’ve done that every year for the about 12 years and now Mother’s Day is one of my favorite days of the year. So…we are suggesting you do the same and take Mother’s Day into your own hands and buy yourself something nice to reward yourself, and if you want to honor a Mother in your life, you can buy her one too.
We went through our past recommends and found everything that we thought would make a great Mother’s Day gift (and added a few new favorites). Hopefully this list makes shopping a little easier or even gives you a few ideas! (I’ve got my eye on #14)
#1 Madewell Puffy Hoop Earrings—a fun twist on the classic gold hoop!
#2 Clarins Hydrating Lip Oil—About half of us in the office have this lip oil and love it. It leaves your lips with a nice shine and very subtle color without feeling too sticky or glossy (we love the color cherry).
#3 Pura Ironwood Scent—This scent is a W Design favorite. It’s musky with notes of vetiver, sandalwood, pepper, and black tea.
#4 The Five Minute Journal—It's pretty + the prompts every day are simple enough to actually write in five minutes or less!
#5 Half Baked Harvest Every Day Cookbook—A cookbook is a classic Mother’s Day gift so we had to include this one because Half Baked Harvest has the yummiest recipes.
#6 McGee & Co Check Tablecloth—A cute and classic tablecloth.
#7 Quince 14K Gold Necklace—One of the more expensive recommendations today, but it truly is something you will wear wear every day and will love forever! It’s such a stunning, foolproof gift for a special event.
#8 Diptyque Baies Scented Candle—This is a classic scent for a reason. We don’t know anyone who doesn’t like it, it’s a really nice fresh/fruity scent. Again, it’s a splurge but it also has a very nice throw.
#9 Murchison-Hume Fig Hand Soap—Our go-to hand soap because it’s not only pretty but smells amazing. We’ve used this in almost every project we’ve installed lately.
#10 Everlane Organic Cotton Sweater—It can be tricky to buy clothing for someone as a gift but this sweater is an exception. It’s so comfortable and so cute. It’s definitely an office favorite (I think almost everyone in the office has it in at least one color).
#11 Crown Affair Hair Mask—We love anything from this brand and think this hair mask is amazing. It smells so good and is the perfect gift to leave your mom feeling pampered.
#12 Nerra Dry Body Oil—An amazing body oil and the best part is that it has a spray applicator so it’s super easy to spritz onto your skin and rub in.
#13 Madewell Suede Purse—The color is really unique and I love the suede material—I also really like the magnetic closure feature, it makes getting things in and out of it super simple.
#14 Gorjana Signet Ring—Such a simple and beautiful ring. You can also get it engraved to make it a little extra special.
#15 Quince Silk Pillowcase—Swapping my standard pillowcase for a silk one, has changed my skin and hair! So soft and such great quality for the price.
#16 Amber Perfume Roller—More of a subtle perfume that smells so good and is easy to throw in a purse or travel with.
