Foolproof Tile Combinations For Your Bathroom
5 of our go-to tile sources that would look good in any bathroom
Lately, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about how to pair tiles in the bathroom—ex. what shower wall tile works best with a penny tile floor, or what tile complements a limestone bathroom floor, etc. Tile is one of the most versatile materials you can use in bathroom design, but with so many options available, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. To make things easier, we thought we’d share some of our favorite tile pairings (and where to find them) from bathrooms we’ve designed. These combinations are not only practical and durable but also timeless. We hope these ideas inspire your own tile choices and help you feel more confident when it comes to sourcing materials for your own home.

Pairing a marble pencil trim with a simple/inexpensive tile will elevate a shower. I also loved how soldiering the bottom row of subway tile created a nice finished border. It’s an inexpensive design choice that feels high-end.

In this space we selected both Carrara marble tiles for the shower floor and the shower enclosure’s walls, but different styles. When in doubt, mix up sizes of tile rather than materials. Pro tip: We suggest paying for the nice marble with bigger slabs where you notice the veining, but when it’s cut to a small subway tile or mosaic, you don’t need top of the line marble and can buy from the less expensive sources.
