We’ve loved seeing the more recent popularity of designs that are rooted in history—they feel charming, authentic, and timeless. When thinking about incorporating historic design choices in your own home, it’s important to pay attention to whether or not they fit the style and architecture of your home (if they don’t they might feel trendy or out of place rather than timeless and historic). Even though these styles don’t fit in every home, we thought it would be fun to share some of our favorites because if nothing else, we love taking inspiration from the past.

#1—Closed Floor Plan

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that we’re big fans of a closed floor plan. We love how having a closed floor plan can guide you through a home and create a more intimate environment.

#2—Narrow Hardwood

This style of hardwood was used heavily in the 40s and 50s because of it’s durability and accessibility (which is why it’s still so prevalent in older homes). We really like how easy it is to maintain and even though it can be busier, it creates lots of interest in a space.

#3—Plate Racks in Kitchens

They’re not only functional, but such a cute way to display heirlooms and add so much charm to a kitchen.
